Messing about with trash, cardboard, and linkages

Apr/12

With OpenMake Trash coming up, I thought I'd explore ways of animating objects/trash through our longstanding love of automata. I saw Keith Newstead's piece called "The Ghost of a Bird" and was inspired... so I thought I'd try a few things today.

First here is Keith's piece (no trash just pure inspiration).

Now my take, made with found objects and paper and wire. Eventually I'll make the bird out of trash too but I was just focusing on the mechanism and linkages this time around.

I'm excited to see where this goes. More soon. For all you bird nerds out there, I know the heron's "knees" should bend the other way but this makes it look like a human bird hybrid... which I like.
